Unique hotels in New England

Unique hotels across New England. We show the independent, non-standard properties our data can confirm and explain what it cannot.

  • Verification pending

New England has the highest concentration of independent inns and bed & breakfasts in the country. Coastal Maine, the Berkshires, Newport, the Vermont ski towns and Cape Cod all sit inside a few hours of each other.

We cannot verify at scale which of these properties is genuinely unusual, so this page shows the independent inns, lodges, B&Bs and resorts scoring highest in the state and explains the gap rather than papering over it.

Why this page is not in our search index yet

“Unique” is a judgement about the building, the conversion or the concept. Our export does not contain the fields that would let us verify a converted lighthouse, a railroad hotel or a castle property at scale, and inferring it from a property name produces false positives we are not willing to publish.

Rather than guess, we have left this page out of our sitemap and marked it noindex until the underlying field is verified property by property. The stays below are real selections from our collection and every claim on this page comes from data we can show. Read our editorial policy.

515 qualifying stays reviewed. 12 made this shortlist.

We start from every hotel, inn, resort, lodge and bed & breakfast in our United States dataset that scores 8.5 or higher on Booking.com with at least 100 guest reviews. For this page we then looked only at properties in New England. See how we select hotels.

What do these stays cost?

What is the Charming Score?

It is our own 0-10 selection score, not a guest rating. It combines the Booking.com guest score (45%), review volume (20%), property class (10%), amenity fit (10%), independence and property character (10%) and price positioning (5%). The full method is published on the Charming Score page.

Have you stayed at these hotels?

No, and we do not pretend otherwise. Our selections come from guest data, property facts and location, not from first-hand visits. Our editorial policy explains exactly what we do and do not claim.
