Boutique is not a category any booking site actually verifies, so we define it ourselves and show our working. For us it means an independent property - not a chain brand or a chain soft brand - operating as a hotel, inn or bed & breakfast at four stars or below, with a guest score of 8.7 or higher.

That deliberately excludes large branded hotels that market themselves as boutique, and it deliberately includes small inns that never use the word. Scale and independence are things we can check. Atmosphere is not.
