Savannah's Historic District is laid out around 22 surviving squares, which means almost every block has a shaded green space on it. Staying inside the district puts Forsyth Park, River Street and the Cathedral Basilica within walking distance. Many of the properties here occupy restored 19th-century townhouses rather than purpose-built hotel blocks.
